HELP SUPPORT THE TRADITIOAL WAY'S OF THE NON STATUS AlGONQUINS
9,000 Years ago, the Champlain Sea, created by the retreat of the glaciers began to withdraw to the East, forming the Ottawa and St. Lawrence valleys. At its highest level, it occupied the lands located less than 200 m of altitude (from the current level of the seas). It extended to the Northwest of l'Isle - aux - allumettes with long arrays ranging North to Lake trout (Balsam), Cahill, Moiseau and Galarneau, there where today, are found (pro-glacial deposits) sand flats near the main rivers.
A few thousand years later, around 6,000 BC the indigenous nomads travel in the Ottawa Valley and St. Lawrence River, hunting, gathering and fishing for their livelihood. They shape the stone to make gouges in hard wood, the semicircular knives, the weight for net fishing and atlatl weights. They also had knives and arrowheads in Slate. Copper serves to manufacture jet arrowheads, hooks, harpoons, awls, axes, knives, needles, bracelets, beads and pendants. A large number of these objects on Allumetteand Morrison Islands (Tessouat Island) were found in 1960. read more history
